Updating your home doesn’t have to cost the earth. Use our budget-friendly ideas to give your home the perfect makeover for spring.

Tip 1 Change the handles

This is so simple to do, but can make a really big difference to how your home looks in just a couple of hours. You can change door, cupboard and drawer handles, and when you realise just how many gorgeous handles there are to choose from, you’ll be hard pushed to choose a favourite. We love these quote door handles – although they’re a little on the pricey side, they are lovely, so it’s allowed if you need just a couple.

Of course, you don’t need to splash out that much, just changing the knobs on your chest of drawers to something like this, will give it a new lease of life.

Tip 2 Update your taps

Changing taps is not tricky but if you’re unsure about what you’re doing, it might be worth finding a mate who does or reading this guide on how to do it. If you don’t have one, and you’re not all that comfortable about doing plumbery things, you might be better off choosing something else. But, if you’re confident that you can do the job, this simple change can make it seem like you’ve had a new kitchen. We like these traditional-style chrome taps and they’re a steal!

Tip 3 Change your soft furnishings

Shops like TK Maxx and Primark, with their cheap and cheerful home sections, have made it easy to change curtains, cushions and throws, on a regular basis. Switch-up the colours to suit the current trends, and donate to charity once you’re done with them and fancy a change. Oh, and don’t forget to check out charity shops for cushions and throws – a fancy throw can make an old tired sofa look brand new.

Tip 4 Paint

Finally, the tips would not be complete without suggesting giving your home a lick of paint. This has to be one of the easiest ways to make your place look completely different. However, painting, if you want it done properly, takes some time and effort. You should take a few minutes to learn how to prepare the walls for a fresh coat of paint. Trust us, you’ll be glad you did in the end.

Have fun!
