Before you apply
What information do you need from me when I apply for the Ocean Credit Card?
We don’t need your life history, but we will need a few personal details. This includes your addresses for the last two years, your employment status and your income.
What will my credit limit be?
The Ocean Credit Card comes with an easy to manage credit limit between £200 and £1,500. This lets you keep tighter control over your spending compared to credit cards with higher limits.
The amount you’re personally offered will depend on your situation and credit history.
I’ve been declined before. Does this mean I’ll be declined again?
Not necessarily, no.
The good news is that every lender has their own criteria, so just because you’ve been declined by one, it doesn’t always mean you’ll be declined another.
This is where QuickCheck comes in – you can use it to see if you’ll be accepted before you apply, and you don’t need to worry about leaving a mark on your credit score, as it won’t impact it whatsoever.
Does QuickCheck do a ‘soft search’ or a ‘hard search’ on my credit report?
QuickCheck does a ‘soft search’ with the credit reference agencies. You’ll be able to see this on your credit rating, but no one else will, so it won’t be affected.
If you go on to apply, we’ll also do a ‘hard search’, which will show up on your credit rating.
If I’m accepted, when will I get my card?
It’ll take 7 – 10 days from when you’re accepted.
Your PIN will arrive first. This is sent separately for security reasons. Make sure you change it to one that you’ll remember.
Once you have your card
How do I download the app?
Simply search for ‘Capital One UK’ in the Apple App Store or Google Play.
You can download the app to your smartphone and keep track of your account anytime, anywhere.
What can I do on the app?
Once you’ve downloaded the app and registered, you can:
- View your current balance
- Check your credit limit and see how much you’ve got to spend
- See your latest transactions
- Check your payment info, such as when your next payment’s due and how much it’ll be
- Make a payment to your credit card
How do I register for an online account?
You can register for an account in the top right hand corner of this page, or go here, and follow the instructions.
If you’ve not already registered, you’ll need to do so here.
Once registered, you can:
- View your statements
- View any transactions since your last statement
- View your current balance and how much you have available to spend
- Contact Capital One through secure message
- Set up alerts so you get emails to alert you when you’re near your credit limit, or when your payment is due
- Switch off your paper statements

How does the contactless feature work?
Using the contactless feature on your card is a quick and simple way to pay when spending up to £30, without entering your PIN.
Here’s how it works:
- Look out for the contactless symbol.
- Touch your card against the reader.
- A beep or green light shows your payment is approved.
How do I make a payment to my credit card?
There are a number of ways you can make a payment to your credit card:
By Direct Debit
To set this up:
- Sign into your account online
- Go to the ‘Pay Bill’ option
- Select ‘Set up/Amend Direct Debit’ and follow the on screen instructions
Pay online or through the app with a debit card
- Sign in to your account online
- Go to the ‘Pay Bill’ option
You’ll need your debit card number, expiry date, the three digit security code on the reverse of your debit card (CVV) and the amount that you wish to pay.
You can save your details so that you can make regular payments quickly and easily. Please make sure you update your debit card details when your current one expires. This is so that you don't miss any payments, as you could incur a late payment charge.
At a bank
Just take your full statement, including the payment slip and your payment, to any UK bank and pay over the counter. Any bank other than your own may charge you for this service.
Internet banking, telephone banking or standing order
You can make payments to your Ocean Credit Card account using your own bank's telephone or internet service, or by standing order.
You’ll just need to give them Capital One's bank details, which you can find on your monthly statement.
Most banks offer 'Faster Payments' when you pay by internet banking, telephone banking or standing order. Faster Payments received by 5.30pm will reach your credit card account the same day. Payments made after 5.30pm will reach your account the next day.
