Lender's criteria
There are a couple of things that can affect whether or not you’re accepted for a credit card – your credit history and score, and your lender’s own criteria.
This is the type of customer they are willing to lend to and want to use their card. Not every person who applies for this card will fit the lender’s criteria. While it’s impossible to know exactly what lenders are looking for in their customers, there are tools that help you work out which type of credit card you’re most likely to be accepted for – like one offered by confused.com.
If you’re turned down for one type of credit card, it might be unlikely that you’ll be accepted by a lender offering a very similar product. Remember that each new application shows up on your credit report so try to keep them to a minimum if you can.
